2/27 Class

Today in class we did a paper were we looked up defintions of words in the textbook. Some words I already new but a couple of them were words I have never heard of like ka. I learned that a English archaeloigist found King Tuts tomb and he became selfish and couldn't give it to the Egyptians because he found it and it is displayed somewhere in England. But I think it should be in Egypt because that is part of there history. Like what if you stole the constitution and they didn't give it back. I think mostly everybody would be really mad. Anyway I learned that Egyptians mummified the Pharoahs because they believed that the person would leave there body and then come back to them once they were buried which is really cool because they took there brain out by going through there nose.

2/26 class

I didn't save my questions from today but I will do it tomorrow. Today we had a test that was easy. I got an 80 but should of definiteley got a higher grade. The first part was matching which were easy beside one or maybe two. words because the defintions I wrote were different than what I wrote but I still figured most of them out. The rest was multiple choice. I rember one I wasn't sure about which was about whether the  ew stone age was Neolithic or Paleolithic. I wasn't sure about that one. But it was easy. One of the questions asked what country was not part of the Fertile Crescent which was Egypt because Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Turkey and Israel. Also we did questions that I didn't save but I did do but I will do a double blog tomorrow.

2/21

We stated of the class sumerizing what Hammurabis Code and putting what would happen if somebody broke that law on the blue sheet we did on Tuesday. I believe that his laws were pretty harsh because he said a eye for an eye which seems a little much I think that the person should go to jail instead of getting there eye ripped out of there face. Also like if you construct a house wrong and kill somebody you would be sentenced to death and would be put into the wall in the house which is disturbing and weird because nobody wants to think that there is a dead person in my wall. Lastly if a house you robbed burns you would be thrown in it which is insane they should just do jail time for a while not death.

2/19

In class we did a worksheet about laws. And we had to decide what the punishment should be for the person. One question was about a kid hitting his son and I said two years in jail for the kid. Also there was one where a man crashed his friends boat, I said he should pay the guy a new boat and go to jail for one month. There was one that said the slave said that he wasn't his owner and I said 10 wips and jail time because your not allowed to say that if your a slave. Also there was a guy who built a house wrong and he killed a man and I think he should be sentenced to death but if not guilty no jail time. But if he is killed he will be buried underneath the house that he built.

2/14

Today in class I learned Sumerian gods were represented in nature like on buildings and famous monuments. A test question is that Sumer is the first surviving epic. Sumerians divided the hour into sixty minutes, minute into sixty seconds and made the calendar based of the moon cycle. The Ziggurat was a Sumerian Temple built on top of a hill or the highest point in the area/ town. Sumer was counquered by Akkandians in 2350 BC and there gods took the place of previous gods and all were forced to worship. Lastly King Hammurabi created the Hammurabi Code which included the saying an eye for an eye. But the laws he made up were mostly very harsh and a lot of peoples limbs would be taken of in some of the laws.

2/13 Class

Today in class we learned 200,000 years ago humans emerged in southwest Africa. Also 14,000 years ago humans became world wide by living everywere in the world. Neolithic age was when tools became more advanced. Humans were hunters and gathers. Neolithic age is when humans shifted from hunters and gathers to permanent settlements which is where they used to move around following the animals but now they stay in one spot and then hunt. Populations increased and the productivity of food increased. The wheel and the plow were invented and made storage of food and the making of food easier by making it faster. A test question will be what modern day countries are in the Fertile Crescent which are Syria, Iraq, Iran, Jordan and Israel. Lastly Woman's jobs were to stay home and take care of the house by cleaning it and to take care of the children.

2/8 class

During class the only thing we did was go over what we wrote for our notes. And I wrote disadvantages which are unpredictable flooding, no natural barriers, natural resources of Sumer were limited and the flood water made silt which was a thick bed of mud. Solving Problems were dug irrigation holes, built walls that were made of mud for defense and traded, grain, cloth and tools. Five characteristics that Sumer had apart from human societies were advanced cities, specialized workers, complex institutions, record keeping and improved technology. City state means a city and the area around it. Also the Sumer government was controlled by the  temple Priests and the military would run the military and the rest of the civilization.

2/7 class

Today in class we got our test back which I feel mad because I should of got a better grade instead of a 89, but an 89 is still a good grade I just wish it would have been a couple percentage points more. Any way in class we also still wrote notes about the things we read in the chapter. And it talked about conflicts a lot of civilizations had during there time. One of which was flooding from nearby rivers, and that would happen usually once in a year or sometimes more. Also in would be hard to plant plants because if you planted them to close to the river you would destroy your crops. This was especially harder in Egypt with the Nile River that would flood and them having little to none soil because they had lived in the dessert.

2/6 Class

Today in class we were taking notes while reading pages 26-34. We learned that some of the civilizations had problems with flooding from the rivers near by and this was mostly common in Egypt were the Nile river flooded there area. Also some priests ruled the government but while the king and the military would rule the land. Civilizations had science and technology that would invent bronze weapons that they would use in battle and they invented the wheel which was a big turning point in technology that made carrying things a lot more easier. There were four river valley civilizations which were China, Mesopatamia, Ancient Egypt and the Indus valley which were the most popular civilizations.

2/4 Class

Today in class we just studied and did a test that's seemed pretty easy and I feel that I had aced it. A question on the test said what are eight of the domesticated animals and I said llamas, goats, sheep, pigs, bactrien camels, arabian camels, horses and yaks. SO that part seemed easy to me but also there was like what job did Jared Diamond not have. I feel that I aced that test or got one wrong because I feel I had studied enough over the weekend by going over the domesticated animals and I wrote ten down on the test. I also studied the three things ancient civilizations that were great had in common which were Advanced technology, Well organized work force and large population. I feel that everybody else did good because this was a test if you paid attention by watching the movie you will get an A on the test but that's my opinion but I might be wrong.
