Early Republic

Rome spreads its power
Romans took over Italy and beat the Etruscans. Rome's location made it easy access for riches of the land ringing the Mediterranean sea. Traded wine and olives. 264 Carthage and Rome went to war. This started the Punic Wars. Between 264 and 146 BC. The mastermind of Carthage was general Hannibal. He assembled 50,000 infantry, 9,000 cavalry and 60 elephants.
Rome Triumphs
Scipio lead the Romans to victory over Hannibal in 202 BC. Rome victories gave them power in the western Mediterranean. Then they conquered the east in 70 BC.
